ForestLocated at an altitude of 1,300m in the Triglav National Park, Pokljuka is a mountainous plateau covered in  woods with an area about  20 square km.

Pokljuka is for visitors who appreciate well-preserved nature, calmness and beautifully preserved traditions. In the summer months there are numerous walking paths to help you spot fauna or to find endemic  flora. In winter it is possibly the best place to be if you love cross-country skiing as not only are there plentiful trails but it is where an annual World Cup biathlon event is held.

Pokljuka is also a gateway to the countless mountain paths that lead into the Julian Alps with Triglav being the highest peak (2864m). You will be delighted to see cattle grazing freely and the chance to talk to the local herdsmen. And whilst there why not refresh yourself with a glass of home-made sour milk or sample cottage cheese that is made in one of the shingle-covered wooden cottages?
