Slovenians are extremely fond of hiking and being up high in the mountains.

You will be greeted with “Dober dan” by everyone you meet on the trails. This means “Good day”, but if you can’t remember it all just say “Dan”.

It is said that you are not a true Slovene if you’ve never been to the summit of Mt Triglav, so it is quite common to see people of all shapes and sizes on the way to the top of Slovenia’s highest peak. Even children as young as 8 or 9 will be seen high on top.

In winter there is serious snow which brings out mountaineers, ice-climbers and uphill skiers (ski touring). And as strange as it may seem, sometimes it is too warm to fully enjoy these wonderful sports.
